Letter from the host
I have been in business for most of my career and have seen firsthand how practical and decisive moves in uncertain circumstances are crucial for business success.
As a California business owner myself and as someone who serves other California businesses each day, I see the myriad issues that small businesses in our state face – high cost of living, regulatory environment, talent retention amidst a thriving tech sector, infrastructure challenges, global competition and technology disruption.
Recently I decided to make a conscious effort to seek other’s experiences – to learn from people who have seen things that work & things that don’t work, people who can share their stories so we can all learn from one another.
Unlike exciting fast-growth stories or interviews with executives of big companies, there are not countless blogs and podcasts devoted to all the practical things that are on our minds.
There are still fewer public discussions about leaders who have worked behind the scenes, understood their niches and done really well — though I personally know many such people.
California Owner is my project to both correct that and educate myself on building great businesses right here in our backyard.
